Beowulf is a great adventure story written at any time between circa 675 and 1000 A.D. The Old English poem follows Beowulf from heroic youth to legendary old age. A tale of true love and simple misunderstanding unfolds in class-conscious England near the close of the 18th century. The five Bennet sisters have been raised well-aware of their mother's obsession on finding them husbands and securing wealthy futures. Incidents of a Slave Girl was published in 1861 and recounts the true story of Harriet Jacobs (1813-1897), a black slave who suffered a terrible life prior to the Emancipation. Jacobs spent most of her life in North Carolina ruled by the hand of a ruthless landowner. After several failed attempts at escape, she finally made her way to the North where she was reunited with her family.
